Whether you work from home or in an office, it's important to have a workspace that inspires creativity and minimizes distractions so you can be more productive. In this article, we'll discuss a few tips for creating an inspiring, distraction-free workspace.
Make sure your workspace has clean walls and a view of outside. You may want to include some prints or pictures that inspire you. If you've created one, you may also want to display your vision board in your workspace for more inspiration. You could also have inspirational wallpaper on your computer.
Account for noise
If you like to listen to music or white noise, be sure to include it in your workspace. You can play it on your computer or your phone with one of the many different music apps available. If you work in an open office and find music distracting, purchase headphones to wear so you're not distracted.
Choose colors carefully
Colors like blue and green help improve efficiency, and yellow inspires optimism. If you're a creative person, you might want to include a little purple in your office decor. Incorporating cool colors like blue, purple or green can portray health, beauty or sincerity, and they can make you feel calm. Avoid too much red or orange, because they can be intense and distracting. If you want to add some color, purchase bold-colored desk lamps or storage boxes.
If your workspace doesn't have enough light, that can affect your focus. If your office has a lot of natural light, use wall-mounted lights to provide focused light without taking up a lot of desk space. Choose bulbs carefully so you have enough light in your space.
The more your office represents your style, the easier it will be to work in. Add a few pieces that represent your style. These could be plants, pieces of art, or stationery. If your family is important to you, you could purchase a pinboard or corkboard to display photos of them, or if you prefer, you can create a collage of pictures of things that are important to you.
Another way to personalize your workspace is to customize it for your health needs. You may want to purchase an ergonomic chair or seat cushion, or a stationary bike pedal so you can get in some extra cardio while you work. If you enjoy yoga, you could buy a yoga ball to use as an office chair.
If you work from home, you may want to consider purchasing an office aquarium - having an aquarium to look at can be a great way to stay relaxed during the day. If you work in an office that doesn't allow aquariums, you could purchase a fake aquarium.
Did you know scents affect us in different ways? They can be calming, invigorating, or fresh-smelling. You could put a room deodorizer in your space to keep it smelling the way you like or use an essential oil diffuser to provide a pleasant scent in your office or workspace.
Some of the scents that affect our moods include:
Lemon - This scent promotes concentration and has calming and clarifying properties that can help when you're feeling angry, anxious or run down.
Lavender - Lavender can help control emotional stress. It also helps soothe nerves and relieves nervous tension and depression. It also helps treat headaches and migraines.
Jasmine - Jasmine can also be used to calm nerves, but it's also used as an anti-depressant because of its uplifting capabilities that produce a feeling of confidence, optimism, and revitalized energy.
Rosemary - Rosemary's stimulating properties can fight physical exhaustion, headaches, and mental fatigue. Therefore, it can be great to use in the morning when you need a little pick-me-up.
Cinnamon - In addition to fighting mental fatigue, cinnamon can also help improve concentration and focus.
Peppermint - If you're trying to brainstorm ideas, try using peppermint scent. It helps invigorate the mind, promotes concentration and stimulates clear thinking.
Create a fun workspace
Move the lights or plants. If you tend to be fidgety, have things around you that you can play with when you need a break. These could be things like Etch-A-Sketches, Silly Putty, or a magnetic sculpture - anything you can use to give your brain a break from your screen.
Keep it fresh
If you're sick or if people in your office are sick and must take off work, that affects your company's productivity. If your office has a refrigerator, make sure you clean it out regularly. And make sure you clean your office regularly or have a cleaning crew come in and clean it for you. Also, keep an air purifier in your office so you can keep the air fresh.
These are just a few things you can do to create an inspiring workspace. Incorporating these ideas will help keep your ideas flowing and keep you focused so you can complete your project. If you have any other ideas to create an inspiring workspace, feel free to share them in the comments.
